Neal and his wife, Jan, are proud recipients of the Gates Volunteer Service Award and have supported the University of Washington for over 40 years. Beyond the classroom, Neal has extensive experience working within the entrepreneurship environment, providing mentorship to budding entrepreneurs through Neal’s Running Start: an intensive program that brings entrepreneurs to Silicon Valley to learn from Neal and his network.
A lover of the outdoors, Neal serves on the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) board. He is also an Uplift Family Services board veteran, which recently merged with Pacific Clinics and is now California’s largest community-based nonprofit provider of high-quality behavioral health care. This organization helps thousands of children and their family members recover from trauma such as abuse, severe neglect, addiction, and poverty.
Neal is an active ally in encouraging more women into the investment community. He partners with the research initiative The Allyship which aims to accelerate the current pace of social change and get at least 30% of women to make up the space in the investment industry. He has also led a podcast series on women in business.
